Board of Directors Meeting   The Board held its monthly meeting last night. The Board re-elected the following officers:

  • Dr. Lynda Dolan – President

  • Dr. Kevin Kurohara – Vice President

  • Dr. Brenda Camacho – Secretary

  • Dr. Buddy Festerling – Treasurer

  • Dr. Richard Lee-Ching was appointed as an Emeritus Ex-Officio (non-voting) Board member.

  • The Board reviewed the IPA’s strategic priorities, 2019 initiatives and 1st quarter financials. The IPA continues to be stable financially.

  • The Board recommended members have the opportunity to provide input and feedback regarding MSO services of benefit to the membership.

  • IPA board voted unanimously to write a letter signed by all Board members to Governor David Ige and Mayor Harry Kim supporting the Mauna Kea Thirty-Meter Telescope (TMT) project in response to Barry Taniguchi’s article appearing in the Tribune Herald (attached).

Need a Doc Campaign + Providers Accepting HMSA Patients   If your office is accepting NEW HMSA PATIENTS, please let us know so we can help patients find a primary care provider. EHI’s “Need a Doc” campaign will help place patients with current member practices. If you have any questions, please contact Kelley at 808-797-3113 or email koleary@ehiipa.com.

Visits to HMSA Payment Transformation Clinics   Kelley O’Leary, RN, Quality Performance Manager, will be visiting Payment Transformation PCP offices on a regular basis to help troubleshoot and provide support. Please feel free to reach out to her at any time at 808-896-3903 or koleary@ehiipa.com.

MEETINGS

IPA Super Huddle – Tuesday, May 14, Noon   Members and staff are invited to attend our quarterly Super Huddle meeting. The meeting will include a session on motivational interviewing techniques, information on Medicare’s Clinical Decision Support requirements for radiology procedures and Hilo Medical Center updates including Ornish Program outcomes. OSHA Training Workshop   Alan Yamamoto, HIOSH Consultation Project Manager, will offer a two-hour OSHA workshop for East Hawaii IPA Members on OSHA/HIOSH requirements on Tuesday, June 4, EHI IPA office. THIS IS MEANT FOR CLINIC LEADERS WHO WILL CONDUCT THE TRAINING IN EACH OFFICE. THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENT FOR OSHA/HIOSH TRAINING OF ALL STAFF IN EACH OFFICE. Mr. Yamamoto is willing to schedule individual office visits after the presentation to help assess your compliance. If you are interested in attending the WORKSHOP, please contact Jo at jvitales@ehiipa.com. 23rd Annual East Hawaii IPA Healthcare Symposium – “Advancing Care for Patients, Providers & Communities” August 16-18, 2019, at the Fairmont Orchid in Waikoloa. EHI IPA Relay For Life Team – event happening Saturday, July 20 @ 4pm-midnight   Please help us reach our goal of raising $2,000 for cancer awareness and research. With 79 days left, EHI IPA has raised 20% of that goal, ranking #20 out of 57 teams. Walk with a Doc – Lili‘uokalani Gardens Park – Dr. Craig Kadooka – WWAD will be holding a special celebration on Sunday, May 19th to commemorate its 5th year of holding weekly walks engaging over a 1,000 participants over this period. Every Sunday, WWAD meets at the park across the street from Hilo Bay Café. Come down to hear a short healthcare talk at 8:00 AM, followed by stretching… then off you go. Anyone is welcome to participate.

Eighth Annual Big Island AIDs Walk – Hilo, Saturday, May 4   Registration opens at 8:00 AM, walk starts at 9:00 AM. All funds raised will go directly to provide services for nearly 300 men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS on Hawai‘i Island. There will be light snacks and refreshments for participants.   • Healthcare Source HR Screening Tool Available for Members – EHI offers member offices use of a complimentary employee screening tool. The tool helps assess whether potential new hires are the right fit for your office! The tool rates candidates numerically by job performance, retention and service excellence. It also customizes key questions for face-to-face interviews. This program has been used successfully by hundreds of healthcare organizations. Candidates are sent a link to the assessment with results forwarded to a designated office email address.   • Mountain-Pacific Quality Health CMS Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge – Applications are now open to practices who want to be recognized in the CMS 2019 Million Hearts Control Challenge.   • Beacon Health – PCP Referral for Behavioral Health Support – Beacon Health offers behavioral health services for HMSA patients. Attached is the referral form (here), the overview of services (here), and the WHO-5 Well-Being index tool (here).
