UPDATES

Screening, Brief Intervention & Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Grant Update   The IPA received an additional $200,000 in SBIRT funding from the State of Hawai‘i Alcohol Drug & Abuse Division. The IPA will need to generate 4,000 additional screens from now until September 20, 2019, to earn this additional amount. The IPA will provide additional incentives to offices who screen patients using its “eScreen” solution. Tablets, software and training will be provided free of charge to practices who participate in addition to monetary incentives. Providers and staff are invited to attend an informational meeting on Friday, June 14, 12:00 PM. Flyer attached.

EHI IPA Pau Hana “Kick Off” Mixer Event – Friday, June 7, 6:00-7:30 PM, Hilo Yacht Club   Provider members are cordially invited to our FIRST Pau Hana “Mixer.” This is a member networking event—no speeches, no formal program… just come and “talk story” with fellow providers over a glass of wine or beer and pupus! We have invited Hilo Medical Center’s graduating family medicine residents to this “Kick Off” to wish them well in their future endeavors. RSVP here by May 31.

HMSA PAYMENT TRANSFORMATION

PO Engagement Measures   IPA achieved 100% of its performance measures.

HMSA Appreciation Checks   HMSA will be sending letters announcing that they will be giving each Payment Transformation provider a one-time $3,000 check in appreciation for dealing with the challenges and problems experienced with COREO.

HMSA 2018 Quality Performance Payments   HMSA said they are planning to send out performance checks on May 31, 2019.

MEETINGS

OSHA Training Workshop   Alan Yamamoto, HIOSH Consultation Project Manager, will offer a two-hour OSHA workshop for East Hawaii IPA Members on OSHA/HIOSH requirements on Tuesday, June 4, at the EHI office. THIS IS MEANT FOR CLINIC LEADERS WHO WILL CONDUCT THE TRAINING IN EACH OFFICE. THIS DOES NOT MEET OSHA/HIOSH TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH OFFICE. Mr. Yamamoto is willing to schedule individual office visits after the presentation to help assess your compliance. If you are interested in attending the WORKSHOP, please contact Jo at jvitales@ehiipa.com. Opioid Epidemic & Medication Assisted Treatment Options – Wednesday, June 19, 5:30 PM    Hear Dr. James Westphal, Beacon Health Options speak on the opioid epidemic and Medication Assisted Treatment Options. Meeting will be held at the EHI IPA office. Application for CME prescribed credit has been filed with American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Flyer attached.

23rd Annual East Hawaii IPA Healthcare Symposium – “Advancing Care for Patients, Providers & Communities” – August 16-18, 2019, at the Fairmont Orchid in Waikoloa. EHI IPA Relay For Life Team Participation – Saturday, July 20 @ 4pm-midnight   Please help us reach our goal of raising $2,000 for cancer awareness and research. Walk with a Doc – Lili‘uokalani Gardens Park – Dr. Craig Kadooka – Every Sunday, WWAD meets at the park across the street from Hilo Bay Café. Walkers gather at 8:00AM to hear a short healthcare talk, followed by stretching and then walking at your own pace. Anyone is welcome to participate.

  • Healthcare Source HR Screening Tool Available for Members – EHI offers member offices use of a complimentary employee screening tool. The tool helps assess whether potential new hires are the right fit for your office! The tool rates candidates numerically by job performance, retention and service excellence. It also customizes key questions for face-to-face interviews. This program has been used successfully by hundreds of healthcare organizations. Candidates are sent a link to the assessment with results forwarded to a designated office email address.   • Mountain-Pacific Quality Health CMS Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge – Applications are now open to practices who want to be recognized in the CMS 2019 Million Hearts Control Challenge.   • Individual Nutrition Counseling Referral for Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi (HMONO) – Refer your patients to nutrition counseling with Stacy Haumea at HMONO using their referral form (here). Under the “Referred to” section, select HMONO Family Medicine Clinic.

  • Mountain-Pacific Quality Health: New Patient Tool for Heart Health – Check the MPQH website for their heart health calendar. These are free for patients and can start anytime of the year and includes weight logs and health tips. These offer a fun and easy way for patients to monitor their weight. A calendar example (scroll to the bottom for the example) and order form can be found here.

  • Beacon Health – PCP Referral for Behavioral Health Support – Beacon Health offers behavioral health services for HMSA patients. Attached is the referral form (here), the overview of services (here), and the WHO-5 Well-Being index tool (here).
