Ask the EHI Pharmacist   NSAID prescribing based on patient’s risk: (1. First-line 2. Second-line)

  • High GI bleed risk: 1. Avoid NSAIDS. 2. Use Celecoxib + PPI / + misoprostol.

  • High CV risk (i.e. history of CV event, DM, HTN, HLD, obesity) and High GI bleed risk: 1. Avoid NSAIDS.

  • High CV risk and Moderate GI bleed risk: 1. Naproxen + PPI/ + misoprostol/ + high dose H2-blocker.

  • High CV risk and Low GI bleed risk: 1. Naproxen OR low dose Celecoxib (But if also on Aspirin 81 mg-use 1. Naproxen + PPI/ + misoprostol/ + high dose H2-blocker.

HMSA Payment Transformation Model Update   IPAs statewide voted for a blended base MGMA global payment rate rather than having different rates for pediatric, internal medicine and family medicine. Quality performance will be differentiated by each of these primary care designations (pediatric, internal and family medicine). HMSA will have individual rates prepared by late July.  Contracts will be sent in early August and need to be signed by August 31, 2018. New rates will go into effect on October 1, 2018.

Membership Dues  EHI will be sending requesting dues payment. This year’s annual dues payment will be prorated to $600 from July 1-December 31. Members will have the option to receive monthly invoices or pay one lump sum in advance. Also, a reminder that member providers much purchase and maintain professional liability insurance with annual limits of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence and $3,000,000 in the aggregate.

SBIRT   Stands for Screening, Brief Intervention & Referral to Treatment for alcohol & substance abuse. Any adult PCP office interested in participating in the SBIRT grant can receive up to $2500. 12 offices are currently participating.
