SBIRT – Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to TreatmentEHI received another round of funding from the State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD). We are developing an iPad version of the survey to streamline reporting and save paper! In the meantime, practices have the opportunity to receive an honorarium of $5 per correctly completed paper screen. If you are interested in participating, please contact Jane at jbontuyan@ehiipa.com.
HMSA Payment Transformation
Payment Transformation Updates – Please see attached information which includes information on quality measure changes and newborn true-up payments. (1) PT Quality Measure Changes, (2) Newborn Payments, (3) PT 2019 Measure Changes Presentation.

Breast Cancer Screening Measure – EHI IPA staff will look at COREO to see which patients HAVE NOT had their screenings this year. We will then ask Hawaii Radiologic Associates (HRA) to double-check (due to delays in COREO reporting). If your patient had a mammogram but it did not show up in COREO, we can help you input data for credit. If the patient has not scheduled a mammogram yet, HRA will call them directly on your behalf for screening appointment. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT HRA TO CONTACT YOUR PATIENTS. Please contact Mary at mvitales@ehiipa.com if you want to “opt out” of this process. Otherwise we will assume that it is fine to proceed.
Annual Provider Survey – Please complete and submit this survey online before December 31, 2018.Access the link here. HMSA funding to the IPA depends upon your completion of this survey.
Ecosystem Referrals – NOW AVAILABLE to submit attestation on Coreo. Requirement for compliance is confirmation & description of referrals to programs in the community submitted via an attestation form in Coreo by the end of the measurement year (12/31/18). Each PCP needs to identify which program patients were referred to, then estimate the number of members they referred to those programs. We complained that all of the programs listed with check boxes are on Oahu and not on Hawaii Island. To receive credit for this, please check “other” and list the programs that you refer patients to. See screenshot here.
Payment Transformation Guide – October 2018 Edition is now available on the Hawaii Healthcare Information Network (HHIN) website. Log in here.
2019 Adolescent Immunization Measure – One HPV series must be completed for family PCPs with adolescent patients. The two-dose or three-dose HPV series of vaccines is administered on or between the child’s 7th and 13th birthdays. Those are the same specifications used in the current display-only HPV measure.
“Our Care, Our Choice” ActThe IPA received the attached letter from the State Department of Health regarding Act 2, Session Laws of Hawaii 2018, the “Our Care, Our Choice” Act enacted in April 2018. The law established a regulated process under which an adult resident of Hawaii with a medically confirmed terminal disease and less than six months to live may choose to obtain a prescription for medication to end the patient’s life. The effective date for these requests is January 1, 2019. If you would like more information or need guidance, please contact Mr. Lorrin Kim, Chief, Office of Planning, Policy and Program Development at lorrin.kim@doh.hawaii.gov or 808-586-4189.
KTA Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)KTA Pharmacy will begin offering a Diabetes Prevention Program beginning January 10, 2019. They are looking for patients with pre-diabetes who are willing to attend their year-long program. There is no referral required; all they need is their most recent A1c or fasting blood glucose test that shows that they have pre-diabetes. During the program, patients will learn how to make necessary lifestyle changes to lower their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Contact KTA Pharmacy at 959-2888 to enroll your patients!
Ask the EHI Pharmacist Three recent robust studies have provided new evidence on when to use daily Aspirin 81 mg. The ARRIVE, ASCEND, and ASPREE trials showed overall that aspirin does NOT likely provide any net benefit for primaryCV prevention in patients who are: 70 or older OR non-diabetic with 10-year CV event risk rate <20%. If these patients have any risk of bleeding at all, the risk of the life-threatening bleed outweighs the benefits.
For patients with diabetes, using aspirin for about 7 years may avoid a CV event in 1 out of every 90 patients, while it will cause a life-threatening bleed in 1 out of every 110. Aspirin 81 mg daily remains indicated for secondaryprevention in patients with a history of CV disease (i.e., prior heart attack, stroke, peripheral artery disease, or angina).
