Who We Are
East Hawaii IPA (EHI IPA) is a physician-driven independent practice association (IPA) formed to improve the practice of medicine and health care delivery on the Island of Hawaii (Big Island). Incorporated in 1994 as a non-profit physician organization, East Hawaii IPA has grown to a membership of over 70 physicians on the Big Island. EHI IPA’s network has been valuable to health plans in securing a network for insurance product lines. Members include primary care and specialty providers as well as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Doctors of Osteopathy. A handful of physical therapy professionals are EHI IPA associate members.
There are two categories of membership: Provider Members and Associate Members. Provider members are defined as medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy and advanced practice registered nurses. Membership is open to Island of Hawaii (Big Island) independent providers
EHI IPA is governed by a nine physician Board of Directors elected by the general membership. Officers are elected by and among the board members. A physician serves in the capacity of EHI’s president and medical director. The IPA has a physical office in Hilo supported by an administrator and project staff. Pono Health based in Honolulu provides back office administrative support to the IPA.
